For many of us, the New Year prompts time for reflection, for planning and for fresh starts. It’s a time to renew commitment to goals. It’s a time to execute strategies. It’s a time to launch new initiatives. Remembering my prior successes and past failures, I’ve settled on guiding principles for 2018:
Live-out personal and organizational values. Embrace a positive attitude. Assume positive intent. Prioritize, putting others first.
Underpinning these principles is the realization that the only thing I can control in life is me. Every other impact is brought about because others allow me to influence their decisions and behaviors. Influence is earned when others are confident that I’m invested in their success, when they trust that I have their backs, when they believe I’m concerned about how they feel. It’s really a matter of me living-out and modeling the values I espouse – the values most of us share.
The extent to which I can influence others depends on how genuinely I demonstrate selflessness and exhibit self-discipline. It’s that simple.
What are your guiding principles for 2018? Will you endeavor to be the change you want to see in the world?
Happy New Year!
